Birkes-Dana-shrunk-for-websiteRotary Club of Tulsa member Dana Birkes, the Flintco vice president of business development and marketing, has been named the 2012 recipient of the Weld Coxe Marketing Achievement Award by the Society for Marketing Professional Services.  The awards gala was held in San Francisco July 12.

The award honors professionals whose achievements and contributions have made a lasting impression in the marketing field. It is the highest individual recognition given by the Society for Marketing Professional Services, which has more than 7,000 members nationally.

“I hope through this honor I can share my own experiences to help serve others who are navigating their careers in the field of marketing,” Birkes says. “The past recipients of this award have been generous in sharing their experiences on best practices in marketing so others can learn from them.  They have been my personal role models.”

At Rotary, Birkes is chair of the Public Relations and Marketing Committee.  She is a fellow of PRSA as well as a fellow and past national president of SMPS and was vital in the successful transition of Flintco from a regionally-focused organization to a primarily qualifications-based firm with a national focus. She has received more than 30 awards for marketing communications in a wide variety of categories and is the incoming president of the SMPS Foundation Board of Trustees.

“I feel Dana should be held up as a model for young women looking for a career in the built environment,” Julie Luers, vice president and director of marketing, HGA Architects and Engineers says. “Raising a family, writing, speaking, setting strategic direction for building business, and genuinely caring for her staff, peers and friends is enormously challenging and hard work. To Dana it’s just life.”
