In his first year as the Golden Hurricane head coach, Montgomery transformed a previous two-win team into a squad that won six games in 2015 and made the school’s 20th bowl game appearance. Considered one of the brightest offensive minds in college football, Montgomery became Tulsa’s 29th head football coach on December 11, 2014.
Montgomery brought excitement back to H.A. Chapman Stadium with his potent offensive style. Tulsa ranked among the nation’s leaders the entire season for passing, scoring and total offense, while leading the Hurricane to the 2015 Camping World Independence Bowl. Tulsa completed the 2015 campaign ranked 11th nationally in passing, 13th in total offense and 21st in scoring. Tulsa scored over 37 points per game, while racking up an average of 507 total yards and 333 yards passing.
